Come to Caucus March 3: Make a Difference

Park County Democrats have been holding a virtual county-wide caucus and assembly for several years. Long distances have discouraged participation in the past, but online caucusing allows all interested citizens to attend. The process begins with our county-wide caucus via Zoom at 6 pm on March 3. You must REGISTER HERE to receive the link to attend the caucus. Everyone is welcome to attend, but only registered Democrats (deadline is February 9th) within the county limits can actually vote on caucus business—confirm your affiliation at GoVoteColorado.gov. We will hear speeches from the candidates, sign up citizens to serve as Election Judges, and choose delegates to send to the Park County Assembly on March 10. The Caucus is the most grass roots of all our political activities—you will actually have a direct say in which candidates we want to put forward on the Primary ballot.

Call for Paper Candidates

Often when you receive your voting ballot, you have only one choice for a local office, and In Park County that candidate is usually a Republican. Without any opposition, that person is automatically elected.

For the past several cycles, the Democratic Party has put forth “paper candidates” to hold space on the ballot. These volunteers do not intend to hold the office. They step up to hold the possibility of replacing a failed Republican with a Democrat. If you are willing to place your name on the ballot, you’re only required to do a little paperwork. If your opposition fails for some reason, you will be “elected” and, of course, you can choose to hold the office. Or the Democratic Party will find a qualified person to take over for you.

We need paper candidates for five county offices: Sheriff, Clerk, Treasurer, Assessor, and Coroner. No one is running for Surveyor, so if you have a surveyor’s license, you can run unopposed for that well-paid position.
