Banned Book Club of Park County: Last Night at the Telegraph Club by Melinda Lo
Seventeen-year-old Lily Hu can’t remember exactly when the question took root, but the answer was in full bloom the moment she and Kathleen Miller walked under the flashing neon sign of a lesbian bar called the Telegraph Club. America in 1954 is not a safe place for two girls to fall in love, especially not in Chinatown. Red-Scare paranoia threatens everyone, including Chinese Americans like Lily. With deportation looming over her father–despite his hard-won citizenship–Lily and Kath risk everything to let their love see the light of day. We’ll meet to discuss it on August 12 at 7 pm via Zoom. Kenosha Clean Up: October 10 at 10 am. Get your gloves, boots, and pickers ready for this summer’s Kenosha Pass cleanups. The third and final clean up of the year, we will meet on Saturday October 10 at 10:00 AM in the east parking area on the top of the pass near the Colorado Trail crossing. All help is appreciated, and when we’re done we’ll adjourn for great hamburgers (local meat & veggie) & shakes at the Hungry Moose Caboose in Jefferson.
